Bio

Hi there, my name is Katrina Zara (she/her/they/them), but I also go by the nickname, Kat. Currently, I am a second year student in junior standing, majoring in Psychology with a strong interest in Human Rights. I have been an ally for the disability community ever since I educated myself on how it is the largest minority group among all marginalized communities. As someone who does not have any disabilities but has witnessed the struggles of it from loved ones, I decided to become involved with DRAC because I realize how essential external support and advocacy is for the community. Specifically, I discovered how the campus is in dire need of resources that serve the intersection between mental health and disabilities. As a board member and website controller for DRAC, I hope to apply my forthcoming knowledge and expanded awareness of the disabled community into my mental health work, as well as to potentially expand my writing in the fields of disability rights advocacy.

I find great purpose in serving others and creating positive change, whether that be for the individualized self, or of larger communities. With my privilege as an abled person, I hope to amplify and increase support for the voices of those who are disabled, on a communal and an individual level. Ultimately, I am super excited to learn, listen, and work with this committee.
