Bio

Hello, my name is Sydney Wren (she/her/hers) and I am a second year student studying Applied Chemistry. I have been an ally for the disability community since my sophomore year of high school when I joined Best Buddies, an international nonprofit organization devoted to promoting inclusion among individuals with and without disabilities. I became president of my high school’s chapter and had the opportunity to work with and learn from a diverse group of individuals. I gained insight into what it’s like living with a disability and developed a passion for advocacy through planning events and petitions aimed at making campus a safe and inclusive environment for all students. I was able to attend an international leadership conference and planned several rallies where students pledged to end the “r-word” and overall possess a more inclusive mindset. It was amazing to see our members with disabilities start to feel comfortable attending school events and speaking at rallies. I am still significantly involved in Best Buddies through UC Davis’ chapter and am excited to continue exploring this passion for advocacy and human rights as a member of DRAC.

I am honored to be a member of the Disabilities Rights Advocacy Committee. Working within this community has given me an understanding of the struggles faced by individuals with disabilities and I cannot wait to see what this committee achieves to make our community more accessible and understanding.
